  The *Ministério da Fazenda* (MF) is the Brazilian federal ministry responsible for the formulation and execution of the country’s economic, fiscal, and financial policies. Created on 11 March 1808 by King João VI of Portugal as the *Secretaria de Estado dos Negócios do Brasil e da Fazenda*, it is one of the oldest government agencies in Brazil. The ministry functions under the direct supervision of the President of the Republic, managing the national treasury, tax collection, public debt, and economic regulation. In the context of the iGaming and gambling industry, the MF gained heightened importance in 2023 with the enactment of Law 14.790/2023, which established a federal regulatory framework for fixed‑odds sports betting and online gaming. Under this law, the ministry created the *Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas* (SPA) to oversee licensing, compliance, and responsible gambling measures. The MF also plays a central role in taxation of betting operators, anti‑money laundering oversight, and consumer protection within the sector. The ministry is headquartered in Brasília, with a broad network of subordinate bodies including the *Receita Federal do Brasil* (RFB – federal tax authority), the *Secretaria do Tesouro Nacional* (STN – national treasury), and the *Procuradoria‑Geral da Fazenda Nacional* (PGFN – legal representation of the union in tax matters). Its policies directly shape Brazil’s macroeconomic stability and the regulatory environment for the expanding gambling market.
