History and ownership

Harrah's Lake Tahoe traces its roots to Bill Harrah's first Reno gambling operation in 1937. By the late 1960s, Harrah's had become one of the most professionally managed casino companies in the U.S., and Harrah expanded to the south shore with a new hotel-casino in Stateline that opened in 1972. The property was a major investment in the South Lake Tahoe market and became a flagship of the Harrah's system alongside Harrah's Reno.

After Bill Harrah's death in 1978, ownership changed several times. Holiday Inn acquired Harrah's in 1980, and the company later operated as Harrah's Entertainment before acquiring Caesars Entertainment in 2005. The combined company renamed itself Caesars Entertainment Corporation in 2010, and in 2020 Eldorado Resorts completed a merger with Caesars and adopted the Caesars name. Harrah's Lake Tahoe stayed in the portfolio throughout these changes and continues to operate under the Harrah's brand.

The location at the California-Nevada border in Stateline, directly across from Heavenly Mountain Resort, makes it a popular base for skiers and summer outdoor travellers. The casino includes slot machines, table games, and poker, with the retail sportsbook branded under Caesars Sportsbook. Dining venues have changed over the years; the resort's best-known restaurant is Friday's Station Steak & Seafood, a high-floor steakhouse with lake views. The resort also offers bars, a health club, meeting space, and standard hotel amenities. Guests can earn and use points through Caesars Rewards.

Renovations and recent history

Harrah's Lake Tahoe has gone through multiple renovation cycles since opening. Under Caesars ownership, hotel rooms, casino floor areas, restaurants, and public spaces have been upgraded. In 2022, the property marked its 50th anniversary, underscoring its longevity as one of the most enduring casino-hotel operations on Lake Tahoe's south shore. It remains one of Caesars' key Northern Nevada properties.
