MinterEllison’s roots reach back to 1827 when English solicitor Frederick Wright Unwin established a practice in Sydney. The firm’s direct predecessor, Minter, Simpson & Co., emerged after Edward Simpson joined Unwin’s firm in 1881; three generations of Simpsons led the firm for 110 years. A 1984 merger between Minter, Simpson & Co. and Perkins, Stevenson & Linton created Minter Simpson, which in 1986 merged with Ellison Hewison & Whitehead (Melbourne) and Gillotts (Adelaide) to form MinterEllison.
