Universal Entertainment Corporation traces its roots to 1969, when Kazuo Okada founded Universal Co., Ltd. in Tokyo. In the 1990s, Okada's dealings with U.S. casino executive Steve Wynn opened a route into international gaming and casino investment, and the group later operated for a time under the Aruze name before returning to Universal Entertainment. The property includes a casino, hotel rooms, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, and has positioned Universal as a direct operator of an Asian integrated resort rather than simply a gaming equipment supplier. It has also been a persistent flashpoint in the company's ownership struggles, with Kazuo Okada and the company's board each asserting control over the property at different points.

Governance and Leadership Disputes

Kazuo Okada remained the central figure in Universal Entertainment for almost five decades, but in 2017 the board removed him as chairman and CEO after alleging unauthorized corporate payments. Okada denied the allegations and pursued litigation in both Japan and the Philippines. Court cases and shareholder actions have since produced repeated changes in the company's effective control, making the current executive leadership difficult to verify from public sources without consulting the latest official filings.
