Arizona Cardinals Scouting Director Ryan Gold Banned Indefinitely for Breaching NFL Gambling Rules

The National Football League has handed an indefinite suspension to Ryan Gold, director of college scouting for the Arizona Cardinals, after an investigation found he shared non-public draft information and placed wagers on football games. The ban takes effect immediately.

According to the league’s probe, Gold provided confidential details about the Cardinals’ intended selections for the 2026 NFL Draft before those picks were publicly announced. He also placed parlay bets covering both NFL and college football contests. It remains unclear which third parties received the inside information from Gold.

In a statement released on July 17, the NFL emphasised that its gambling policy—reviewed annually with all personnel—prohibits any form of sports wagering by league employees and bars the sharing of non-public data. “The League’s investigation determined that Gold provided confidential, non-public inside information regarding 2026 Draft selections by the Cardinals before they were announced and that Mr. Gold participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games,” the statement read, adding that while no evidence suggests the integrity of any game was compromised, the breach is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

Gold retains the right to appeal the discipline. This marks the first gambling-related suspension issued by the NFL since 2023, when ten players were penalised for similar violations. The league confirmed that the Arizona Cardinals cooperated fully in the investigation and found no indication that other personnel were aware of or involved in Gold’s activities.

In a related development, the NFL appointed Keith Perschetz as Director of Global Sports Betting in April. That role sits within the league’s broader framework for overseeing sports wagering, which includes commercial partnerships with operators and coordination with regulators across multiple jurisdictions.
