BetConstruct CEO Lena Yasir discusses the increasing regulatory and tax challenges in Europe, the need for hyperlocalisation in Latin America, and the complex but promising Brazilian market.

BetConstruct CEO Lena Yasir has weighed in on the shifting dynamics of international iGaming expansion, highlighting the contrasting conditions operators face in Europe, Latin America, and Brazil. In a recent interview, Yasir detailed how rising regulatory burdens and tax increases are squeezing margins in mature markets, while emerging regions offer growth potential for those willing to invest in localisation.

Europe: Rising Costs and Stricter Rules

European markets have become notably tougher, with tax hikes enacted in the UK, Netherlands, Italy, France, and Bulgaria over the last two years alone. Germany, Belgium, Poland, and Romania have also re-regulated their gambling frameworks. Yasir acknowledged that operating in Europe now demands greater attention to compliance and responsible gaming practices. "Regulation is stricter and operators need to be more careful with compliance," she said. She argued that BetConstruct's technology—particularly its AI tools, risk management systems, and CRM capabilities—enables clients to offset higher costs and tighter rules through more efficient data-driven decision-making.

Latin America: Localisation is Key

In contrast, Yasir sees Latin America—especially Peru, Mexico, and Colombia—as a region ripe for expansion, provided operators embrace hyperlocalisation. She stressed that cultural differences across Latin American countries require more than a one-size-fits-all approach. BetConstruct has invested in local teams, payment methods, content, and mobile experiences to help partners build trust. "Success will be dependent on localisation, compliance, retention and long-term brand trust," Yasir noted, adding that the company offers both full turnkey solutions and modular products such as sportsbook or casino platforms.

Brazil: High Potential, High Complexity

Brazil stands out as the most talked-about market of 2025, and Yasir called it a major opportunity due to its 200 million-plus population and deep sports culture. However, she cautioned that Brazil is also exceptionally complex. The government of President Lula has grown hostile toward the very regulation implemented only 18 months ago, and a pending tax increase from 12% to 15% adds further pressure. Despite these hurdles, Yasir remains optimistic: "I believe Brazil will become more competitive over time. Operators will need more than just big marketing budgets. They will need strong products, good local payment options, good CRM, responsible gaming tools, and reliable technology." She emphasised that BetConstruct’s flexible platform and compliance expertise can help operators navigate the challenging Brazilian landscape.
