Great Canadian Completes Sale of Elements Casino Chilliwack to Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe

Great Canadian Entertainment has closed the transaction to sell its Elements Casino Chilliwack property to a consortium of communities from the Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe. The deal marks a significant step for the tribe, which represents seven First Nation communities native to the Chilliwack River watershed.

The casino, located in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley, features over 300 slot machines, live and electronic table games, bingo, dining, and live entertainment. It has been operating under Great Canadian since 2012.

Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management President & Chief David Jimmie described the acquisition as the next phase in the tribe’s business growth. “This acquisition is the next step in that growth,” he said, adding that the tribe is proud to bring gaming and hospitality into its portfolio. He also noted that the deal demonstrates what the communities can achieve by competing and leading in business.

Great Canadian CEO Matt Anfinson welcomed the Ts’elxwéyeqw Group to British Columbia’s gaming industry, calling them ideal stewards for the business. “We are thrilled to welcome the Ts’elxwéyeqw Group to BC’s gaming industry,” Anfinson stated. He expressed confidence that under the group’s leadership, the casino will begin an exciting new chapter for employees, guests, and the local community.

This sale follows Great Canadian’s earlier divestiture of River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, B.C., to Petroglyph Development Group, a corporation owned by Snuneymuxw First Nation and Musqueam Capital. That entity, serving as the economic development arm of the Musqueam Indian Band, has now acquired five properties from Great Canadian.
