ITIA Reports 52% Decline in Match Alerts, 11 Sanctions in Q2 2026

ITIA match alerts fell 52% year-on-year to 10 in Q2 2026, while the agency issued 11 total sanctions — including a 20-year ban for Jasel Beltre and a four-year doping suspension for Markéta Vondroušová — and increased testing by 2.4% quarter-on-quarter.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) recorded just 10 match alerts from regulated betting operators in the second quarter of 2026, marking a 52% drop from the 21 alerts received in the previous quarter.
Seven of the alerts involved men’s lower-tier competitions – five stemming from M15 World Tennis Tour events and two from M25 tournaments. The remaining three alerts covered two ATP Challenger 75 matches and one W15 women’s fixture. A match alert indicates suspicious betting patterns flagged by monitoring systems, but does not confirm match-fixing; it can also result from mispriced odds, player form, or informed wagering.
Sanctions and Suspensions
During the quarter, the ITIA issued nine sanctions under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program. Jasel Beltre received the most severe penalty, a 20-year ban, while Lu Pengyu was suspended for six years and Ángel Maleno Rosario for three years.
Under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme, two further sanctions were handed down. Nathan Ponwith accepted a one-month suspension after testing positive for cannabis. Former Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová received a four-year ban for refusing to submit to an out-of-competition test, with an independent tribunal ruling she provided no adequate justification despite citing stress, mental health, and safety concerns. Her suspension runs until 21 June 2030, though an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport remains possible.
Testing Activity and Industry Debate
Testing increased by 2.4% quarter-on-quarter, with 2,225 samples collected across 48 countries – up from 2,173 in Q1. All tests were conducted without notice, covering events from entry-level World Tennis Tour tournaments to Roland Garros. The total comprised 1,477 in-competition and 748 out-of-competition samples, with 1,299 from men and 926 from women.
ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse emphasised that “unpredictable testing remains one of the most important tools available to protect clean sport.” The Vondroušová case has sparked broader discussion on balancing rigorous, unannounced testing with player welfare.
Earlier this year, Russian player Alana Tuayeva accepted a three-year-and-nine-month suspension after admitting to fixing two ITF World Tennis Tour matches in 2023 and 2024.
