Maryland sports wagering handle climbs nearly 30% year-over-year in June

Maryland's sports betting handle rose 29.6% year-over-year to $523.3m in June, while casino revenue slipped 2.4% from a year ago.

Maryland’s sports betting market recorded $523.3m in total handle for June, according to the latest figures from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. That represents a 29.6 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, although it edged down from May 2026’s $535.4m.

Online wagering accounted for the vast majority of activity at $515.4m, while retail sportsbooks contributed $8m. Bettors saw $468.8m returned as winnings, producing a hold rate of 10.4 per cent. The taxable win settled at $38.2m, yielding $7.6m in state taxes. Of that total, $5.7m was directed to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education initiatives.

For the full fiscal year 2026 (July 2025 through June 2026), the sports wagering market generated $132.3m in state contributions, a jump of 48.8 per cent year-over-year.

Meanwhile, Maryland’s six brick-and-mortar casinos collectively earned $156.8m in revenue from slots and table games in June. That figure declined 2.4 per cent year-over-year and was down from $170m recorded in May.
