Playtech Launches in Alberta’s Newly Regulated iGaming Market

Playtech has made its debut in Alberta’s regulated online gaming sector, becoming one of the first technology suppliers to go live as the Canadian province opens its doors to legal iGaming. The move strengthens the company’s footprint across North America and provides its licensed operator partners with access to a curated selection of proven casino and live dealer content.

Among the titles now available to Alberta players are Adventures Beyond Wonderland and Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, along with popular slot-style games such as Oink Oink Oink — all of which have already demonstrated strong engagement in other regulated North American markets. Playtech’s broader portfolio aims to give operators a competitive edge as the local market matures.

The launch coincides with the enforcement of the iGaming Alberta Act, under which the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) oversees licensing and operational standards. Playtech’s entry on day one reflects its strategy of establishing a foothold early in newly regulated jurisdictions, leveraging experience gained from mature markets to support long-term growth for its partners.

Shimon Akad, Playtech’s Chief Operating Officer, called the milestone significant: “Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy.” He added that the company is committed to broadening its offering and helping partners “deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”

Charmaine Hogan, Playtech’s Global Head of Government Relations, praised the province’s regulatory framework, particularly the centralized self-exclusion system, which she described as “a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players.” She noted that “well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market.” Playtech intends to work closely with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry stakeholders as the market develops.
