TheSportsGeek Opens Beat the Geek NFL Contest and Ranks the League's Wealthiest Owners

2026-08-10

TheSportsGeek.com has opened pre-registration for its free Beat the Geek NFL contest, where players make weekly spread picks against the site's AI model for prizes, and published a ranking of the NFL's richest owners.

Online betting resource TheSportsGeek.com has opened pre-registration for Beat the Geek, a free-to-enter NFL prediction contest the company hopes to turn into an annual tradition. The site, active since 2008, has built its reputation on blog content, bookmaker reviews and sports analysis, with a staff of industry veterans who collectively bring more than a century of experience.

The contest is built around the platform's AI prediction model, trained on two decades of sports data and powered by neural networks. The system weighs historical head-to-head matchups, current form, injuries, travel schedules, weather and similar variables, allowing it to generate picks without the human biases that can affect manual analysis. TheSportsGeek says the model has delivered 65% accuracy on moneyline bets over a full season of cumulative predictions.

Beat the Geek

To take part, users must create a free TSG account. During the 2026-2027 NFL season, contestants will submit Sunday spread picks each week and see how they measure up against the AI's selections. Players who finish atop the weekly leaderboard and outperform the model will earn $500 gift cards from Giftogram.

Pre-registration also opens the door to additional prizes. Entrants who sign up before the NFL season kicks off on September 9 at 8:20 p.m. EST will be placed in a random draw for one of three $500 gift cards. A separate draw for members who referred others to the competition will award another three $500 gift cards.

At the end of the season, the contestant with the most points on the overall leaderboard wins a $2,500 gift card. In addition, every participant who beat the Geek during the campaign will be entered into a random pool, with one winner receiving a trip for two to an NFL game, including flights and a two-day hotel stay.

The competition is open only to residents of the contiguous United States and Canada who are at least 21 years old, and Quebec residents are excluded. Weekly and referral prizes are set to be awarded within a month of the season ending, while the grand prize will be provided within 30 days of the NFL announcing its 2027-2028 schedule. No purchase is necessary, though a TSG account is required to enter and claim prizes.

Past editions of the contest have attracted more than 500 contestants, yet only 21 people managed to beat the AI across an entire regular NFL season, underlining how tough the challenge is.

The NFL's Richest Owners

Alongside the contest, TheSportsGeek.com has published a ranking of the NFL's 10 richest owners. The league remains the most-watched sport in the U.S., with regular-season games drawing close to 19 million viewers per game, so it is no surprise that billionaires dominate the ownership ranks.

The list starts with Vinod Khosla of the Seattle Seahawks. The Silicon Valley venture capitalist, who co-founded Sun Microsystems and was an early investor in DoorDash and OpenAI, saw his family buy the team in 2026 for $9.6 billion. Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots, who built his fortune in paper and packaging, is estimated at $13.8 billion, while Shahid Khan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, also the father of AEW's Tony Khan and owner of Fulham FC, is valued at $14.9 billion. Stephen Ross, the Related Companies founder who owns the Miami Dolphins, is put at roughly $17 billion.

Jerry Jones, who founded Jones Oil and Land Lease Company and runs the Dallas Cowboys, is credited with a net worth of $19 billion. Woody and Christopher Johnson of the New York Jets, heirs to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, follow at $20.5 billion. David Tepper, one of the top U.S. hedge fund managers who bought the Carolina Panthers for $2.3 billion in 2018, is estimated at around $23.7 billion.

Stan Kroenke, whose portfolio includes the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Arsenal FC and Colorado Avalanche, is valued at $24.3 billion. The Hunt family, descendants of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt and credited with coining the phrase "the Super Bowl," are believed to be worth $24.8 billion. At the top of the list sit the Waltons, whose Denver Broncos ownership traces back to the Walmart fortune built by Sam Walton.

The site expects NFL ownership wealth to continue climbing. Franchise valuations have risen sharply and broadcast rights keep expanding, with live sports now the only programming that can consistently guarantee strong TV ratings. North American readers can pre-register for Beat the Geek now and test their football instincts against an AI built on 20 years of data, with prizes including a 2027-season NFL trip for two.
