Tonybet Gains Alberta iGaming Licence as Province Opens Regulated Market

2026-07-13

Tonybet receives a licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission to operate in Alberta's regulated iGaming market, expanding its Canadian footprint as the province becomes the second to adopt a competitive multi-operator framework.

International operator Tonybet has obtained a licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), enabling it to offer online gaming services in Alberta's newly regulated market. The company, which already holds licences in Ontario and from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, now becomes one of the most widely authorised operators across Canada.

Alberta becomes the second Canadian province, after Ontario's 2022 launch, to introduce a competitive multi-operator iGaming framework. With an estimated population of nearly 5 million and a robust sports culture, the province has designed a regulatory system intended to steer existing unlicensed activity into a licensed, player-protected environment.

Tonybet plans to replicate the localised strategy that has underpinned its Ontario success. This approach centres on regionally tailored sports betting markets, a suite of responsible gaming tools, and dedicated customer support. The operator has already begun platform localisation, integration with Alberta's central self-exclusion system, and commercial onboarding with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC).

Dmitry Arabuli, Tonybet's CEO, said: "Alberta is taking the right approach – building a regulated market that puts player protection and operational standards at the center from the start." He noted that the operator's Ontario business saw registrations and gross gaming revenue both grow by 52% in 2025, with responsible gaming embedded in that growth. "Securing this license means we can bring the same commitment to Alberta," he added.
