Antonio Alvarez

Antonio Alvarez is the Chief Compliance Officer at Crypto.com, a leading cryptocurrency platform. In this role, he is responsible for spearheading worldwide regulatory compliance across Crypto.com's extensive product ecosystem. His expertise encompasses both traditional financial services and the burgeoning cryptocurrency sector, aligning with Crypto.com's mission to bridge these two worlds effectively and compliantly.

Prior to joining Crypto.com in June 2020, Alvarez built a distinguished career in compliance and anti-money laundering (AML). He led a successful AML program at Coinbase, which was implemented across European and Asian markets. His experience further extends to senior leadership positions at prominent financial and payment companies, including Visa and Western Union.

Alvarez spent thirteen years at American Express, where he held various roles and was instrumental in leading business transformation and compliance governance programs across multiple business lines and geographical regions. He also served as Chief Compliance Officer at Yapstone Holdings, Inc. from 2016 to 2019, and briefly at Coinme, Inc. in 2020. He is a graduate of Thunderbird School of Global Management.

His current focus at Crypto.com involves rapidly scaling compliance and regulatory functions to support global expansion and local licensing efforts in key markets. Alvarez is a vocal proponent of embedding compliance into product development from the outset, believing that compliance requirements are, in essence, product requirements for building trusted financial services. He has been a speaker at industry events, discussing the complexities of implementing global digital asset regulations.
