
Brando Benifei
Italian Member of the European Parliament (S&D Group) and Chair of the Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the United States, best known as co‑rapporteur of the landmark EU Artificial Intelligence Act.
Brando Benifei (born 1 January 1986 in La Spezia) is an Italian politician from the Democratic Party. He has served as a Member of the European Parliament since 2014, currently in his third term. During the 2019‑2024 mandate he was the co‑rapporteur for the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, a role that earned him the Best MEP of the Mandate Award from The Parliament Magazine in March 2024. He was re‑elected in June 2024 with approximately 65,000 preference votes.
In the current 2024‑2029 term, Benifei chairs the Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the United States (D‑US) and serves as Coordinator of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) for the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. He is also Co‑Chair of the AI Working Group, a full member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), and a substitute on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and Legal Affairs (JURI) committees.
His policy focus includes artificial intelligence regulation, digital policy, youth and social inclusion, human rights, and EU federal reform. He is a frequent speaker at technology and gambling‑industry conferences such as AIBC World and SiGMA.
