Cassiel Ato Forson

Cassiel Ato Baah Forson (born 5 August 1978) is a Ghanaian economist, chartered accountant, and politician who serves as Minister for Finance and Economic Planning of Ghana since January 2025. He has been a Member of Parliament for the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency since 2009, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). His policy stance on gambling taxation and regulation – including calls for a ban on sports betting and revocation of gambling taxes – connects him to the iGaming industry as a key regulatory figure.

Forson holds a PhD in Business and Management (Finance) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), an MSc in Taxation from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Economics from KNUST, and a BSc in Accounting from South Bank University. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Before entering politics, he was Managing Director of Forson Contracts Ltd (UK) and CEO of Omega Africa Holding Ltd.

Forson previously served as Deputy Minister for Finance from 2013 to 2017 under President John Mahama, and as Minority Leader in Parliament from January 2023 to January 2025. He briefly served as Majority Leader for two weeks in January 2025 before being appointed Finance Minister. In his current role, he leads Ghana's economic agenda and has announced plans to review the betting tax policy, sparking debate in the country's gambling sector.
