Edward Wray

Edward Wray is a highly influential British entrepreneur and businessman, best known as the co-founder of Betfair, a pioneering online betting exchange that revolutionized the gambling industry. He established Betfair in August 1999 alongside Andrew Black, serving as the company's CEO from its inception until July 2003. During his tenure, he focused on international expansion, including spearheading Betfair's Australian operations as CEO of Betfair Australia from 2004 to 2007.

Under Wray's leadership, Betfair achieved a successful public listing on the London Stock Exchange in October 2010, valued at £1.4 billion. His innovative approach to peer-to-peer betting earned him the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award twice. He stepped down as Chairman of Betfair in 2012 but remained one of its largest individual shareholders.

Prior to his groundbreaking work with Betfair, Wray spent eight years at J.P. Morgan & Co., where he served as a Vice President in the debt capital markets and derivatives area. He is an alumnus of Worcester College, Oxford, holding an MA (Hons) in Engineering, Economics, and Management, and is recognized as an Honorary Fellow of the college.

In subsequent years, Wray has focused his expertise on fintech investments and holds various directorships and advisory roles. He is currently a Director at LMAX Exchange Group Limited, a global financial technology company providing institutional execution venues for FX and digital assets, where he also chairs the Audit and Risk Committee and Remuneration Committee. He is also an Advisor at Augmentum Fintech, a leading venture capital investor focused on the fintech sector. Furthermore, he holds directorships at companies such as Prodigy Finance and is actively involved in philanthropy, serving as Chair of the Coach Core Foundation and Mental Health Innovations.
