Fiona Twycross
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Museums, Heritage and Gambling at DCMS
Fiona Twycross, Baroness Twycross, serves as the UK Government’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Museums, Heritage and Gambling at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), a role she has held since July 2024. She is also a Baroness-in-Waiting (Government Whip) in the House of Lords, having been appointed a life peer in November 2022.
Before entering national government, Twycross spent six years as Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience for London from 2018 to 2024, overseeing the London Fire Brigade and resilience planning. She was also a Member of the London Assembly from 2012 to 2020, representing Labour as an Additional Member. Earlier in her career, she worked for Diabetes UK as Head of Governance and Head of Campaigns and Volunteer Development, and for the Labour Party as Regional Director and Agent for the Sedgefield by-election.
Twycross holds a PhD in contemporary Scandinavian literature from the University of Edinburgh and a postgraduate qualification in Public Policy and Management from Birkbeck, University of London. Her background combines public service, political organising, and academic expertise, shaping her approach to regulating gambling and preserving cultural heritage.
