Grant R. Mainland is a partner in Milbank LLP’s Litigation & Arbitration Group. He represents corporations and individuals in complex civil litigation, focusing on securities class actions, shareholder derivative lawsuits, bankruptcy and real estate litigation, and M&A-related disputes. Mainland also handles white-collar criminal and regulatory investigations by the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, PCAOB, and other regulators. Notably, he represents prediction market Kalshi in litigation with state attorneys general and Indian tribes concerning the Commodity Exchange Act and federal preemption of state gambling laws.
Before joining Milbank, he practiced in the litigation department of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Pierre N. Leval of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School (where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Law Review), an M.A. from Harvard University, and a B.A. from Reed College (Phi Beta Kappa). Since 2024, he has been recommended for securities litigation in Legal 500 USA and Benchmark Litigation, and in 2025 was included in the Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America and Benchmark Litigation guides.
