Gunnar Már Gunnarsson

Gunnar Már Gunnarsson is a second-generation Icelandic fintech entrepreneur, co-founder and Group Chief Technical Officer of PAYSTRAX, a European payment processor serving iGaming, e-commerce, and POS merchants. His father co-founded Iceland's first credit card company, Kreditkort hf. (now SaltPay), in 1980, giving Gunnar early exposure to the payments industry.

After university, Gunnar moved into IT for payments, working in the 1990s as a developer and consultant for Československá obchodní banka in the Czech Republic, where he focused on VISA and Mastercard acquiring and issuing systems. Returning to Iceland, he helped develop point-of-sale and e-commerce payment solutions, and later co-founded KORTA PAY, a local payment service provider that grew into a full acquirer with in-house VISA/Mastercard capabilities.

Following his tenure at KORTA PAY, Gunnar co-founded PAYSTRAX in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he now serves as Group CTO and a board member. He is responsible for defining the company’s technology strategy, building scalable systems, and integrating AI-driven automation into risk management and operations.
