Ian Sherrington
Technical Architect at British Airways
Ian Sherrington is a pioneering engineer and technical architect, best known as the engineer behind the world's first online sportsbook. In the mid-1990s, as Technical Director at Intertops, he built and deployed the system that accepted the first online sports bet in 1996. He began experimenting with internet protocols in 1994 after a chance meeting with Detlef Train in a Pimlico pub, which led to the founding of Intertops.
Before entering iGaming, Sherrington worked as a bicycle shop assistant and a computer operator for an insurance company. He later held roles at FunTech Ltd, Q-Servi, Quanta Blockchain Lottery, and BetterBetting before moving into his current position as Technical Architect at British Airways. He also serves in a senior capacity at Crownstar. Sherrington is a well-known speaker at iGaming conferences and has been featured in the Sigma World 'OGs of Online Gaming' series and The Gambling Files podcast.
