Kristen McDonald Rivet

U.S. Representative for Michigan's 8th Congressional District

Kristen McDonald Rivet is a Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 8th congressional district since January 3, 2025. She previously represented the 35th district in the Michigan State Senate from 2023 to 2025.

Before entering Congress, McDonald Rivet worked in education and nonprofit leadership. She served as Executive Director of Michigan Head Start, Chief of Staff for the Michigan Department of Education, and Vice President of The Skillman Foundation, a philanthropic organization focused on youth and community development in Detroit. She holds a BA from Michigan State University and an MPA from the University of Michigan–Flint.

Since taking office in the U.S. House, McDonald Rivet has been active on gambling-related legislation. She is a co-sponsor of the No Profiting from Public Service Act, which would ban members of Congress from using campaign funds for prediction markets or betting on political outcomes. She also supports the FAIR BET Act, which would require facial recognition technology in sportsbooks to prevent self-excluded individuals from gambling. These efforts align with her broader focus on government accountability and consumer protection.
