Michel Groothuizen

Chairman of the Executive Board, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA)

Michel Groothuizen is the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), a position he assumed on 1 July 2024. In this role he oversees the regulation of gambling in the Netherlands, including enforcement and policy development. He has emphasized the importance of responsible gambling and the need for a balanced regulatory approach.

Prior to joining the KSA, Groothuizen served as Deputy Director of the Dutch Custodial Institutions Agency (DJI) for over four years, where he was responsible for the management of prisons and correctional facilities. From 2015 to 2020 he was Managing Director of the Netherlands Institute of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology (NIFP), and simultaneously served as a member of the Provincial Council of Utrecht. Earlier in his career he held policy and economic director positions at the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security.

Groothuizen holds dual master's degrees in Law and Public Administration from Leiden University. His career has spanned public administration, justice, and regulatory enforcement, giving him extensive experience in governance and compliance.
