Peter Kesitilwe

Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe is a highly experienced leader in the iGaming and gambling sector, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the African iGaming Alliance (AIA). Appointed as the inaugural CEO, he leads this trade and standards body established by major operators like betPawa, Betway, 888Africa, and Sportybet to foster a responsible, well-regulated online betting and gaming industry across Africa. His primary objectives include strengthening collaboration between governments, regulators, and operators, promoting responsible gaming, ensuring fair taxation, and positioning Africa as a competitive and sustainable hub for iGaming globally.

Before taking on his role at the AIA, Kesitilwe was the CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA). During his tenure, he was instrumental in spearheading significant transformations within the country's gambling sector. This included introducing online betting regulations, deploying digital monitoring systems, and championing responsible gambling initiatives that gained international recognition. He oversaw reforms to the Betting and Lotteries Act, strengthening the licensing regime and enhancing consumer protections and operational standards.

Kesitilwe brings over two decades of experience in regulatory transformation and governance across Africa to his current role. His career at the Botswana Gambling Authority began in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer, followed by a period as acting CEO in 2022, before assuming the permanent CEO position in 2023. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA, CIMA, CGMA) and holds an MSc in Strategic Business Management. He is also an alumnus of the London Business School Senior Executive Programme and serves on global and continental bodies such as IAGR, GRAF, and the ARSO Gambling Standards Committee.

Under his leadership, the AIA plans to establish a Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) in partnership with Gaming Advisory Africa. This committee will involve over 10 regulators from various African jurisdictions and seven gaming and fintech associations, aiming to standardize responsible gambling measures, anti-money laundering safeguards, and digital compliance systems across markets. Kesitilwe is a recognized international speaker, committed to ensuring consumer protection remains central to the growth of iGaming in Africa.
