Peter Schoenke

Peter Schoenke is the co-founder and chief executive of RotoWire, Inc., the fantasy sports news, statistics and analysis service he launched with Jeff Erickson in 1997. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, RotoWire grew from a single fantasy-baseball news site into one of the most widely syndicated fantasy content providers in the United States, supplying editorial and data across major media platforms.

Beyond RotoWire, Schoenke is best known to the wider gambling industry as an advocate for fantasy sports. As president of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA), renamed the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association (FSGA) in 2020, in the mid-2000s, he lobbied Congress on the distinction between fantasy contests and gambling and is associated with the industry effort that secured the fantasy sports carve-out in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. He has testified before Congress on the subject and has remained a regular public commentator on daily fantasy sports regulation, the skill-versus-chance question, and the growing overlap between fantasy sports, sports betting and iGaming.

Schoenke later returned to the FSGA presidency around 2021; the precise term dates are not independently confirmed. In that leadership role he has helped guide a trade body whose remit now covers sports betting and iGaming alongside traditional fantasy play. He is not an operator or supplier in the traditional sense, but a fantasy-sports-industry professional whose company and trade-association work put him at the centre of U.S. debate over fantasy sports, daily fantasy sports and their legal relationship to gambling.
