Professor Kitila Alexander Mkumbo
Minister of State in the President's Office – Planning and Investment of the United Republic of Tanzania
Kitila Alexander Mkumbo is a Tanzanian academic, politician, and government minister currently serving as Minister of State in the President's Office for Planning and Investment. He holds a PhD in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Dar es Salaam (2009) and was a senior lecturer at the same university before entering full-time politics.
Elected as a Member of Parliament for the Mbarika constituency in 2010, he served as Minister of Education, Science and Technology from December 2020 until December 2023. In that capacity, he oversaw reforms in Tanzania's education sector, including curriculum updates and expansion of technical and vocational training.
Since December 2023, Mkumbo has led the national planning and investment portfolio, driving Tanzania's long-term development vision (Dira 2050) and representing the country at international forums such as the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. He has also engaged with the iGaming and fintech sectors as a featured speaker at the SiGMA Africa Summit 2026.
