Reuben Portanier is an Advisory Partner at GTG Legal, where he leads the Gaming, M&A, and Capital Markets advisory practices. He joined the GTG Group in 2018 as a co-founding partner of Afilexion Alliance, which was later rebranded as GTG Corporate in 2022. In this role, he is responsible for various advisory practices, including gaming, business advisory, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, governance, and compliance consulting. He also specializes in financial services, fintech, ESG, and other regulated sectors, providing licensing support.
Prior to his tenure at GTG, Mr. Portanier founded his own gaming and financial services advisory firm, which subsequently merged with Afilexion in 2018. His executive management experience spans the consulting, technology, and gaming sectors. Notably, he is a former CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and a former board trustee of the International Association of Gaming Regulators.
Mr. Portanier has played a significant role in shaping gaming policy and European regulatory frameworks. He served as an advisor to the Government of Malta on Gaming Policy and European Regulatory policy and was a member of the European Commission's Expert Group until the end of 2013. He is also credited as the author of Malta's submission to the European Union's Green Paper on On-line Gaming. His earlier career includes management consultancy with Arthur Andersen and C-Level positions in the ICT sector with MITTS Ltd (now MITA) and Datatrak Holdings plc (now Loqus).
An internationally recognized expert in gaming, Reuben Portanier is a frequent speaker at international conferences. His contributions to the industry have been acknowledged with various accolades, including being named one of the 50 most influential persons in the gaming industry by Gaming Intelligence Magazine in 2013, and iGaming Consultant of the Year by iGaming Idol in 2018. He holds an honours first degree in Economics and a Master in Financial Services Law from the University of Malta, and is also qualified in Virtual Financial Assets with a postgraduate certificate in ESG from the University of Malta.
