Simon Horswell

Simon Horswell is a fraud specialist and document examination expert with a career spanning law enforcement and the private sector. He began his career in 2000 at UK border control, where he developed a fascination with document fraud during induction training. After four years as a Document Expert at the airport, he completed a 10-week attachment at the UK National Document Fraud Unit (NDFU) and subsequently joined the unit full-time. Over seven years at the NDFU, he gained experience dealing with police forces, providing expert witness testimony, leading training for border guards, and collaborating internationally on document fraud guides.

He then moved to the private sector, working with forensic equipment and document examination technology. Later he joined Onfido, a global identity verification provider founded by Oxford University graduates, as a Fraud Specialist Manager. At Onfido he led a team of investigators in the company’s Fraud Lab and contributed to its Identity Fraud Report. He has spoken at industry events including G2E Asia (Global Gaming Expo Asia) and the HSP conference, and has provided expert commentary for BBC Ulster on romance scams. He is now Fraud Specialist Senior Manager at Entrust, continuing his work in fraud prevention and document examination.
