Stéphane Courbit

Chairman of the Board of Directors of La Française des Jeux (FDJ) and Chairman of L’Essor

FDJ Group (La Française des Jeux)

Stéphane Courbit is a French entrepreneur and investor known for building a gaming and media empire. He started his career in the audiovisual sector and in 1999 co-founded the EMH Group (European Media Holding), which initially focused on television production. In 2000, EMH launched Betclic, an online sports betting platform that became one of Europe’s leading iGaming brands.

Over the years, Courbit expanded his holdings into poker, casino, and lottery operations through his holding company L’Essor, the successor to EMH. In 2019, L’Essor acquired a landmark stake in La Française des Jeux (FDJ) during its privatization, and Courbit was appointed Chairman of the FDJ Board. He continues to oversee L’Essor’s diversified investments in gaming, technology, and media.

Courbit’s role as Chairman of FDJ places him at the helm of France’s national lottery and gaming operator. His business interests reflect a deep involvement in the iGaming industry, with Betclic remaining a key asset under the L’Essor umbrella.
