Trey Lamar
Mississippi State Representative and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman
Trey Lamar is a Republican member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, first elected in 2012 to represent District 8, which covers parts of Tate and DeSoto counties. He serves as Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, a position from which he has driven major tax and revenue legislation, including bills affecting the state’s casino industry.
In 2025, Lamar introduced HB 1881, proposing to raise the casino tax from 12% to 16% to recoup revenue lost due to the legalization of online sports betting. He also chairs a select committee examining Mississippi’s property tax system, underscoring his influence on fiscal policy.
Outside of politics, Lamar is an attorney at the law firm Lamar & Hannaford, P.A., based in Senatobia, Mississippi, where he maintains a legal practice alongside his legislative duties.
