4505 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89154, United States
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public, urban research institution that has evolved from a small extension program into a Carnegie R1 “very high research activity” university. Founded in 1957 as the Southern Division of the University of Nevada, UNLV gained independence in 1969 and has since become a top‑tier metropolitan university deeply integrated with the Las Vegas community. Its 358‑acre main campus lies near the Las Vegas Strip, and it serves approximately 32,900 students across more than 78 undergraduate majors and 197 graduate programs. The university is notably ranked among the top five in the nation for diversity by U.S. News & World Report and is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution as well as an Asian American, Native American and Pacific Islander‑Serving Institution. UNLV operates Nevada’s only law school, a medical school, a dental school, and nationally recognized colleges of hospitality, business, and engineering. Its research enterprise addresses health, climate, entertainment, and economic development, and its Rebel athletics program, particularly the men’s basketball “Runnin’ Rebels,” is a significant part of its identity. With over 4,000 faculty and staff, UNLV is also a major economic engine for Southern Nevada.
