History and Founding

Amiqus was founded in 2015 by Callum Murray after he experienced the cost and complexity of the civil justice system. Working with The Data Lab and the University of Strathclyde, the founding team—including co-founder Rachel Mudd—built a prototype for legal case analysis. However, after presenting to lawyers, they discovered that the most pressing problem was the cumbersome identity verification and anti-money laundering checks that prevented regulated professionals from helping clients efficiently. This insight led to the pivot to a digital identity verification and compliance product, with Serenity Law LLP becoming the first client in 2017.

According to PitchBook, Amiqus has raised $8.69 million in venture funding, with the latest round in June 2025. Tracxn reports funding from eight institutional investors and 32 angel investors across three rounds. The company has won multiple awards including Scottish EDGE, Barclays Entrepreneurs Awards (regional winner), and the Deloitte ‘Disrupt the Enterprise’ prize. It was named the fastest-growing tech business in Scotland and the 20th fastest-growing in the UK, and won the Tech for Good Award at the Scottish Tech Startup Awards in 2021. Sir Sandy Crombie (former CEO of Standard Life) joined as Chairman in 2017.
