Company History and Ownership

River Cree Resort & Casino opened in 2006 as a joint venture between the Enoch Cree Nation and Paragon Gaming, but the First Nation later acquired full ownership. Since then, it has invested over $200 million in expansion and modernization, making it a landmark destination in Alberta. The resort is operated by River Cree Enterprises Limited Partnership, which is wholly owned by the Enoch Cree Nation.

Business Model and Revenue

As an integrated resort, River Cree generates revenue from land-based casino gaming (slots, table games, poker), hotel accommodations, dining, entertainment events, and ice rink rentals. The upcoming iGaming platform, River Cree iGaming, will add online casino and sportsbook revenue streams under Alberta's regulated market. All profits are channeled into a charitable trust that funds community social programs.

Core Products and Platforms

The physical casino offers 1,665 slot machines, 46 table games, a 14-table poker room, and the Embers smoke-friendly area with 405 slots and 14 tables. The resort also features the Players Club / Winner's Edge loyalty program, which is being upgraded with Passport Technology's Lush platform for enhanced gamification and self-service. The Venue hosts concerts and events for up to 2,400 guests. The twin ice rinks provide recreational and hockey facilities.

Technology Partnerships and Modernization

In 2024, River Cree selected Passport Technology’s Lush loyalty platform and Mira player enrollment kiosks to modernize its rewards program. The resort also deployed Genetec Security Center for unified surveillance, managing over 1,150 cameras and 150 doors, along with KiwiVision people counting analytics. These systems improve both operational efficiency and guest experience.

iGaming Expansion

The most significant strategic development is the planned launch of River Cree iGaming in 2026, an official online casino and sportsbook. The platform is being developed in alignment with Alberta’s regulated iGaming market, which is expected to generate $76 million for the province in its first year. The company has appointed a Director of Marketing, Jayne Behm, to handle media inquiries for the online launch. River Cree’s website currently warns customers against unauthorized accounts claiming to represent the brand.

Leadership

River Cree’s CEO is Vik Mahajan, who oversees all operations including the iGaming initiative. No other C-level executives are publicly confirmed. Key senior roles below C-suite include Jayne Behm (Director of Marketing) and Bob McDonald (Director of Surveillance and Compliance).
