Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, is the flagship resort of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the operational heart of Seminole Gaming. Opened in 2004 as the first casino to carry the Hard Rock name, it became the cornerstone of the Tribe's 2007 purchase of the entire Hard Rock International brand, giving a tribal gaming enterprise worldwide reach across hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The Hollywood campus was transformed by a $1.5 billion expansion completed in 2019, including the iconic 36-story Guitar Hotel, Hard Rock Live arena, and an expanded gaming floor. The company is a real-money casino and hotel operator rather than a sweepstakes casino business, with more than 2,000 slots and 200 table games on site and a statewide mobile sportsbook, Hard Rock Bet, operating under Florida's 2021 gaming compact. It also runs a real-money online casino in New Jersey. Jim Allen, chairman and CEO of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming, has led the Tribe's gaming operations since 2001.

Detailed Review

History & Ownership

The Seminole Tribe of Florida opened a high-stakes bingo hall in 1979, establishing one of the first major Native American gaming operations in the United States. In May 2004, the Tribe opened Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood under a licensing arrangement with Hard Rock, making it the first casino in the world to operate under that brand. In early 2007, the Tribe completed the acquisition of the entire Hard Rock International business from the Rank Group for $965 million, including the memorabilia collection, cafes, hotels, and casinos. That acquisition converted a single Florida casino into the anchor of a global hospitality and entertainment portfolio.

The Hollywood Campus

Between 2015 and 2019, the Tribe invested about $1.5 billion in the Hollywood property. The expansion, completed in October 2019, added the 36-story, 450-foot Guitar Hotel and the Oasis Tower, plus redesigned pools, new restaurants and nightlife venues, and Hard Rock Live. The resort now functions as one of the largest integrated casino destinations in the southeastern United States and a major tourism and convention draw for South Florida.

Gaming Floor and Licensing

The Hollywood gaming floor covers approximately 168,000 square feet and includes more than 2,000 slot machines, more than 200 table games, and one of the region's largest poker rooms. As tribal gaming, the casinos operate under compacts negotiated between the Seminole Tribe and the State of Florida. The April 2021 compact granted the Tribe exclusive rights to statewide mobile sports betting under a hub-and-spoke model in which wagers are initiated on tribal servers. Pari-mutuel operators challenged the compact, and after several federal court rulings and a U.S. Supreme Court decision not to take the case in 2024, Hard Rock Bet was able to operate across Florida. The same corporate umbrella includes Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa and several smaller Seminole-branded Florida casinos.

Digital Gaming

Hard Rock Bet, the Tribe's statewide mobile sportsbook, launched November 1, 2021 and is operated by Hard Rock Digital, the digital arm of Hard Rock International. The app returned to full operation in phases during 2023 and 2024 after the federal litigation resolved. In New Jersey, the company also operates a real-money online casino under the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City license. Technology partnerships, including work with GAN Limited, have supported parts of the digital platform infrastructure.

Business Model and Market Position

The company makes money through land-based casino play, hotel stays, food and beverage, entertainment, and digital wagering. It is not a sweepstakes casino operator; its Florida and New Jersey businesses are licensed, real-money gaming operations. Within Florida, the Seminole Tribe holds a unique position as both regulator and operator under its compact, giving its casinos a competitive moat in the state's physical market. The acquisition of the Hard Rock brand gives the Hollywood property international marketing reach that few tribal casinos can match.

Economic and Community Impact

Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood employs roughly 3,000 to 4,000 people on its campus, and Seminole Gaming reports more than 13,000 employees across Florida. The Tribe directs gaming revenue to education, healthcare, housing, and emergency services for tribal citizens and surrounding communities. The resort also supports hospitality employment, entertainment bookings, and tourism spending throughout Broward County.

Leadership

Jim Allen has led the Tribe's gaming operations since 2001 and now serves as chairman and CEO of Hard Rock International as well as CEO of Seminole Gaming. Jon Lucas, formerly of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, became chief operating officer of Hard Rock International in June 2022. The Seminole Tribe remains the sole owner of the enterprise, with leadership decisions made through its gaming and corporate structures.

Industry Recognition

The Hollywood resort holds AAA Four Diamond recognition, and Hard Rock International leadership is regularly recognized in industry programs. Executives associated with Seminole Hard Rock and Hard Rock International are often part of honors such as Global Gaming Women's Patty Becker "Pay It Forward" award class, which most recently named its honorees in August 2026. The property also remains a frequent venue for major entertainment and sporting events.
