Company History & Ownership

SunBet was founded in 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa, as an online betting and gaming operator. It became the digital cornerstone of Sun International’s gaming division when it was fully acquired by the group in March 2023. Sun International is a major hospitality and entertainment group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE: SUI). SunBet’s corporate headquarters are located at 6 Sandown Valley Crescent, Sandton, 2146, South Africa.

Technology & Platform

SunBet does not develop its own proprietary platform; instead, it relies on a best-in-class multi-vendor approach. The sportsbook is powered by Kambi, with a partnership that began in November 2017 and was extended on a long-term basis in 2022. Player account management (PAM) and content aggregation are handled by Bede Gaming, a partner since 2017. In 2024, SunBet selected Shape Games to deliver native mobile app frontends for both Android and iOS, replacing a previous web-based interface. This technology stack allows SunBet to offer a scalable, tailored product in the regulated South African market.

SunBet is one of the fastest-growing online operators in South Africa. In H1 2025, group revenue rose 70.7% year-on-year to R874 million (€42.6 million). For full-year FY2025, revenue hit ZAR 2.1 billion, a 76% increase driven by active player growth and improved product offerings. The brand has expanded beyond South Africa, launching in Namibia in 2025 and entering Botswana in 2024. SunBet also secured a Gold Sponsorship of the 2026 Fearless 10K Run Series in Botswana.

Leadership

SunBet’s most senior executive is Simon Gregory, who serves as Chief Executive (CEO). He has led the company through its accelerated growth, expansion into new African markets, and key technology partnerships. Other C-level roles (CTO, CCO, COO, CFO) are not publicly disclosed for SunBet specifically; these functions may be shared with the wider Sun International group.
