New York mobile betting revenue climbs to $214M as hold rate rebounds

New York's mobile sports betting market made a sharp recovery in July, with eight operators combining for $214.4 million in gross gaming revenue on a $1.88 billion handle. The monthly hold reached 11.4%, more than double June's 5.19% rate.

June had produced a record $2.25 billion in wagers but only $116.8 million in revenue. In July, the handle fell by roughly $376 million (16.7%) while revenue climbed about 83.5%. Six of eight operators improved month over month, and year-over-year revenue rose 37.8%. The hold also moved back in line with the January-May period, when it had been above 8%.

World Cup effect

Betting activity stayed strong during a seasonally slow stretch, driven by the 2026 FIFA World Cup taking place in North America. July's handle rose 34.3% year over year, after a 36.6% rise in June. Together, those two months brought in $4.1 billion in wagers. Favorable three-way moneyline results — including Spain's victory over Argentina in the final — helped lift the hold. Even with handle falling below $2 billion for the first time in 11 months, it remained comfortably above the $1.40 billion reported in July 2025 and the $1.26 billion from July 2024.

Tax take

New York's 51% tax on mobile sports wagering revenue produced roughly $109.3 million in July, compared with $59.6 million in June. Year-to-date tax collections have passed $725 million, following $1.32 billion collected in 2025.

Operator leaderboard

DraftKings led in handle for the second straight July, accepting $661.5 million in bets and generating $72.9 million at an 11% hold. FanDuel took the highest revenue total in the state, earning $86.1 million on a $651.2 million handle and a 13.2% win rate — double its June figure.

Fanatics brought in $21.1 million, up 129% from June, on wagers exceeding $221.6 million, just under a 10% hold. BetMGM recorded $15.6 million in revenue from $138.3 million in bets at an 11.3% hold. Caesars collected $11.4 million on a $122.6 million handle with a 9.3% hold. BetRivers took in $40 million in wagers at an 8.8% hold. TheScore Bet and Bally Bet each finished with single-digit win rates and fell short of their June revenue.
