Janno Lieber

Janno Lieber is the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the largest public transit system in the United States. Appointed in 2021, he oversees the operation and capital planning of New York City's subways, buses, commuter railroads, and bridges/tunnels. Lieber has been credited with balancing the MTA's budget, advancing megaprojects such as the Second Avenue Subway extension and the L-train reconstruction, and steering the agency through the financial fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of congestion pricing.

Before becoming Chair and CEO, Lieber served as the MTA's Chief Development Officer and President of MTA Development, where he led the agency's capital program and real-estate initiatives. Earlier in his career, he worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation, contributing to the 1997 transportation authorization bill and the Welfare-to-Work program. Lieber holds a degree from Harvard University. His leadership is increasingly tied to New York's casino licensing process, as the MTA is slated to receive billions in revenue and Lieber himself holds a reported personal financial stake in a potential casino site.
