Bally’s Corporation is a U.S. gambling operator with a combined land-based, online casino and mobile sports betting business. Originally incorporated in 2004 as Twin River Worldwide Holdings, the company rebranded as Bally’s in 2020 after buying the Bally’s name from Caesars Entertainment; Bally’s Las Vegas itself remains Caesars-owned, so the two are separate entities. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, Bally’s operates a portfolio of regional casino resorts, including Bally’s Atlantic City, Bally’s Lake Tahoe and Bally’s Chicago, and its digital arm, Bally’s Interactive, runs the Bally Bet sportsbook and Bally Casino online casino. The company employs roughly 10,700 people and is controlled by Standard General, the hedge fund led by chairman Soo Kim, which completed a take-private acquisition in 2025. Bally’s also holds one of the most closely watched U.S. casino development licences: its temporary Chicago casino at Medinah Temple opened in 2023 while the company works on a planned $1.7bn permanent resort. Before going private, Bally’s traded on the NYSE as BALY.
Detailed Review
History and Corporate Roots
Bally’s Corporation began life in 2004 as Twin River Worldwide Holdings, a Delaware-incorporated vehicle set up to own and operate Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The company took over the former greyhound-racing property and converted it into a full casino, then expanded regionally through deals that added Dover Downs, Tropicana Evansville and other properties. In 2020 it acquired the Bally’s brand from Caesars Entertainment, rebranded as Bally’s Corporation, and also took on Bally’s Atlantic City. The Bally’s Las Vegas name stayed with Caesars under a licence arrangement, so Bally’s Corporation is a separate company from the Strip casino.
Digital Expansion and Gamesys
Around 2021 Bally’s pushed into online gambling with a string of acquisitions. It bought SportCaller, a free-to-play sports gamification supplier; Bet.Works, a sports-betting platform provider; and Monkey Knife Fight, a daily-fantasy operator. In March 2022 it completed the much larger purchase of London-listed Gamesys, which brought online casino, bingo and sports-betting technology into the group. The Gamesys deal also reshaped management: Gamesys CEO Lee Fenton briefly served as Bally’s CEO, and Robeson Reeves later took over as chief executive.
Chicago Casino and Development Pipeline
Bally’s holds the licence for the first casino in the city of Chicago, a concession that has made it a closely watched player in U.S. casino development. It opened a temporary casino at Medinah Temple in September 2023, while planning a $1.7bn permanent resort on the former Chicago Tribune site. The permanent project has faced delays and public pressure from Chicago alderpersons demanding that full construction resume. The company also operates a broader portfolio of roughly a dozen regional casinos, including Bally’s Lake Tahoe, Bally’s Dover, Bally’s Evansville, Bally’s Shreveport, Bally’s Black Hawk, Bally’s Quad Cities and Bally’s Twin River Lincoln, alongside the newest Chicago property.
Business Model and Digital Products
Bally’s makes money from land-based casino gaming, either on its own premises or through management contracts, as well as from online and mobile sports betting, iCasino and bingo. Its digital division, Bally’s Interactive, runs the Bally Bet sportsbook app and Bally Casino online casino, and also supplies free-to-play and B2B technology through SportCaller. The online business gives Bally’s a national digital presence that can complement its regional land-based footprint, although the online sports-betting market is highly competitive.
Leadership, Ownership and Take-private
The company was publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker BALY for years. Longtime chairman Soo Kim controls Standard General, the hedge fund that agreed to acquire the company in 2024. Shareholders approved the all-cash take-private transaction in 2025 and the deal closed in mid-2025, ending Bally’s public-market listing. Robeson Reeves served as CEO at the time of the acquisition and remained in the role as the company became private.
Market Position and Regulatory Footprint
Bally’s is one of the larger regional casino operators in the U.S., with roughly 10,700 employees before the take-private. Its Bally’s brand is widely recognised, but it operates under state-level licences across multiple jurisdictions, including Rhode Island, Delaware, Indiana, Nevada, Louisiana, Colorado, Illinois and New Jersey. Regulatory oversight is split across state casino commissions and gaming enforcement agencies, and the Chicago project has added political and regulatory scrutiny. Bally’s remains distinct from Caesars Entertainment’s Bally’s Las Vegas, making its brand story a notable case in U.S. gaming.
