- Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Circa Hospitality Group is the umbrella company behind one of downtown Las Vegas' most concentrated casino-and-sportsbook portfolios: Circa Resort & Casino, The D Las Vegas, and the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, all clustered along the Fremont Street Experience. Founded and led by Detroit-born entrepreneur Derek Stevens, the private group traces its operating roots to 2012, when Stevens reimagined the former Fitzgeralds as The D. Its flagship, Circa Resort & Casino, opened in October 2020 as downtown's first ground-up casino resort in decades and houses a stadium-style sportsbook widely billed as the world's largest, wrapped in 78 million pixels of LED video. The group's licensed sports betting arm, Circa Sports, operates the retail Boomers sportsbook brand at The D and Golden Gate, runs a mobile sportsbook in Nevada and other states, and has recently pushed beyond Stevens-owned properties: Boomers Sportsbook debuted new retail locations at Four Queens and Binion's Gambling Hall. Although the name suggests a broad hospitality operation, its iGaming-relevant core is land-based casino ownership and regulated sports betting, with an adults-only flagship resort built specifically around the modern sports-wagering experience.
Detailed Review
Origins and Properties
Circa Hospitality Group is the privately held enterprise behind three adjoining downtown Las Vegas casino properties controlled by founder and chief executive Derek Stevens. The group's operating history began in 2012, when Stevens, a Michigan automotive-industry veteran, purchased the Fitzgeralds on Fremont Street and rebranded it as The D Las Vegas. In 2016, Stevens and his brother, Greg Stevens, acquired the nearby Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, a property dating to 1906, giving the family two of the northernmost casinos on the Fremont Street Experience.
The group's flagship, Circa Resort & Casino, opened on October 28, 2020, as the first ground-up casino resort built in downtown Las Vegas in more than four decades. The property is adults-only (21-and-over), has 777 hotel rooms, and centers on a multi-level casino highlighted by the Circa Sportsbook, which the company bills as the world's largest sportsbook, featuring stadium-style seating and a video display composed of 78 million pixels of LED screens. The resort also includes Stadium Swim, an amphitheater-style pool complex with a 143-foot LED screen, the Legacy Club rooftop cocktail lounge, and several restaurants.
Sports Betting and the Boomers Brand
The group's licensed sports betting division, Circa Sports, operates the retail sportsbooks at Circa, The D, and Golden Gate. At The D and Golden Gate, the retail books carry the Boomers brand, styled as Boomers by Circa Sports, a playful nod to the Baby Boomer generation that also reflects the retro, downtown Las Vegas atmosphere of those properties.
Beyond its own casinos, Circa Sports has expanded through the Boomers retail brand to neighboring downtown properties. Boomers Sportsbook debuted new retail locations at Four Queens and Binion's Gambling Hall, two downtown Las Vegas casinos not owned by the Stevens group, extending the brand to five downtown retail sportsbooks. This expansion was the news event through which the company was first identified for this database, covered by Global Gaming Insider. Circa Sports also operates a mobile and online sportsbook in Nevada and has entered additional US states through market-access partnerships.
Market Position and Regulation
Circa Hospitality Group is a family-led, privately held business with Derek Stevens as its principal owner and public face. The group is regulated by the Nevada Gaming Control Board and Nevada Gaming Commission for its casino and sportsbook operations. Its position is distinctive in the Las Vegas market: rather than operating a Strip megacomplex, the group has consolidated a significant footprint in the downtown corridor, betting on the redevelopment of Fremont Street and on sports betting as a core amenity. The company has also drawn attention for its sportsbook promotions, NFL-season contests, and its role in downtown Las Vegas revitalization.
Regulatory and Business Notes
The exact legal incorporation date of an entity named Circa Hospitality Group could not be independently verified from public records during this research; the name is used in industry coverage as the umbrella label for the Stevens-controlled casino and hospitality operations. The database's previous classification of the company as a Sweepstakes Casino Operator is imprecise: the group's actual iGaming-relevant business is land-based casino operation, licensed sports betting, and mobile sportsbook wagering, not sweepstakes gaming.
