BETBY has published a post-World Cup playbook showing operators how to turn tournament traffic spikes into retention decisions, citing an 86.4% traffic uplift and 84.8% rise in active players across its partner network.
Sports betting supplier BETBY has released a new operator playbook aimed at converting the 2026 World Cup's short-term traffic gains into long-term player value. The guide, titled "The World Cup Is Over. Now What? Win Engagement, Cut Churn, Grow LTV," addresses the drop-off that typically follows the tournament final, when casual audiences lose interest and hard-won customers begin to churn.
Across BETBY's partner network, the World Cup drove an 86.4% increase in traffic and an 84.8% rise in active players against the month before kickoff. The event was the largest World Cup ever held, with 48 teams, 104 matches and 39 days of competition. While most operators had plans in place for the spike, BETBY argues that far fewer thought through what happens after the final whistle.
The playbook contends that operators already have all the data they need to act by the end of the tournament. It frames the post-event challenge around three decisions: what content to show each player, when to intervene, and how much any individual player is worth in terms of retention spend.
BETBY's network data is used to highlight several practical findings, including how the World Cup affected traffic, active players and engagement speed; how long players stayed active when given an AI-personalised feed; how at-risk players were identified while still reachable; and how retention budgets were matched to projected LTV tiers.
Danil Emelyanov, head of AI Labs at BETBY, warned that "most AI hype in this industry doesn't survive contact with reality." He added that AI built with a clear purpose can drive real value through better personalisation, more accurate prediction and more granular segmentation, which is how data becomes commercial value.
